Welcome to the Life of the Summers

Welcome to my little family’s life. Most of you reading this know me and my sweet little family. My name is Lori and I have a son that just turned 11 years old and I am about to have another baby in about three weeks. It is a girl and I can’t wait until she gets here. This pregnancy has been a bit more difficult that my first for many reasons.

First of all, this is a girl, so carried much lower.

Second, I am 11 years older than I was during my first pregnancy. So 11 years definitely makes a difference with your body and it is now apparent that things do change as you get older. 🙂

Third, I have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, which has been a challenge, but I am muddling through. Having to make sure I eat right and take my blood sugar regularly. On a positive note, once I deliver, the diabetes will go away. Now there is a greater possibility that I will develop diabetes later in life, but I intend to continue to watch what I eat and will probably continue to monitor my blood sugar periodically even once the baby is born.

Anyway, my son is Devon and he just turned 11. As for my daughter that is soon to be born, I will not be revealing her name for sure until she is here.

I have 3 weeks left until she gets here. I went to the doctor yesterday and was informed that she is in position (head down) and I have already dilated to 1 cm. I have been having Braxton Hicks contractions since I was 4 or 5 months along, but they are definitely increasing. I am feeling them almost constantly. I am also having regular contractions periodically which are causing me to dilate. Of course they aren’t at any kind of regular intervals, but they are starting to hurt more. So basically anytime in the next 3 weeks she could make her grand appearance.

Devon is very excited about having a baby sister. He goes through his old toys and books and pulls out ones he thinks she will like. He finds books that he says he would like to read to her once she is born. I have seen him with his twin cousins when they visit and he is really good with them. He interacts with them, talks to them, plays with their toys with them, and even though they don’t understand, he tries his best to explain his Nintendo games to them. 🙂 He is so cute. So I think he will be an excellent big brother.

Anyway, I guess that is enough babbling on and introducing my sweet little family.

More later….
